Fossil palm wood is commonly found in eastern Texas and Louisiana, but I don't know the actual origin of this incredibly unique palm. Regardless, when I cut into this wood for the first time, it took my breath away. Never had I seen such a combination of colors and patterns in palm wood! Incredible burgundy colors are sometimes found in this special wood, but the combination of orange, blue and grey in a pin-point pattern really put this freeform on a higher level. With palm wood, there are almost always minute pin hole openings in the surface that are not visible except under a strong light and with very close inspection, and this piece is no exception. I feel that this does not detract from the beauty at all and is part of the character of fossil palm. You just have to see this piece to believe it!
